Improving Girls Middle Schooling

Narrative description of Project:
The project will focus its efforts to achieve the following objectives:
Augmentation of Government efforts to improve quality education in the Girls Middle Schools.
Building up the confidence of the parents in the education process through Social Mobilization and involving them in the School Management.
Improving the school environment through enhancing teacher’s competencies, provision of instructional materials and support efforts.
Reducing the reservoir of primary schools graduates and enhancing enrolment and competition rate of Girls Middle Schools.
Description of actual services provided by your staff within the assignment:

Conducted household survey and selection of focused schools, based on enrolment, at middle level, adequacy of teaching staff, number of clustering primary schools with accessible distance and approval of government.
Created close collaboration with the government at district and provincial levels through frequent meetings and reporting.
Revival/ formation of PTSMCs and education councils, building their capacity to support in management of the school.
Conducted focus group discussion of primary, middle and high school teachers
Conducted of TNA with reference to instruction in Science, Mathematics and English.
Developed modules for training of teachers of focused schools.
Conducted co-curricular activities in focused schools.
Created linkages between primary and middle school.
Capacity building of district management and head teachers.
Strengthening of focused schools by: (i) filling the vacant teacher’s positions in collaboration with education department. (ii) Supply of furniture and (iii) Equipment of laboratories and libraries provided.
Advocacy and experience sharing of teachers, head teachers, PTSMCs.
Monitoring and Evaluation of the activities of the Program.
